Athletics Ultimate Championship: 91,09m! Season's sensation dominates men's javelin

The field events at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship are not merciful, as athletes have only two rounds to register a proper result. Out of the 8 participants, the two worst are cut after both the second and third round.

Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage found himself in big trouble, after his first attempt went barely over 75 meters. Under maximum pressure the Sri Lankan delivered in the second round, with a throw of over 85 meters earning him 3rd place after the first two rounds.

The next round was even better for Tharanga, as he launched the javelin over 87 meters to earn himself first place. However, there was a bit of a downside to this, as his status as leader meant that he'd be forced to make his final attempt almost straight away as the first athlete in the final round.

This curiosity of the Ultimate Championship field events might have phased some, but this season there's been no stopping Sri Lanka's diamond. The javelin launched from his hand like a lightning bolt, finally landing amidst the crowd's roar at 91.09 meters - his Ultimate Championship -title firmly secured.

The three others still in with a chance had opportunities, but the wind was knocked out of them witnessing Pathirage's epic effort. Grenada's Anderson Peters finished second with 86,18m, while Europe's pride was rescued by Julian Weber's 3rd place thanks to a throw of 85,89 meters.
