Snooker: 19-year old sensation defeats Higgins at British Open - Brilliant quarter-final bracket set

Stan Moody managed to get himself a handsome win at snooker's British Open. The 19-year old Englishman took down four-time world champion John Higgins with a scoreline of 4-2 to seal his place in the quarter-finals.

This was also Moody's personal best result at a ranking event. A year ago in Cheltenham the youngster also managed a quarter-final appearanace, but he's never managed to reach the semi-final stage at a ranking event.

Higgins wasn't at his best on Thursday night, with Moody taking the opportunity with both hands. The youngster's flashiest stuff came in the final frame, where he came up from 0-61 down to take victory thanks to a nice clearance of 69 points.

- The match was a bit broken, but in that last frame I thought I might still get one more chance. When it came, I used it, Moody told WST after the match.

Moody will be facing fellow Englishman Liam Highfield in the quarter-finals. Highfield was one of the standout performers on Thursday, getting the better of Long Zehuang 4-1 thanks to breaks of 86, 104, 78 and 102.

Jack Lisowski meanwhile continued his strong tournament by advancing to the quarters thanks to a 4-1 victory over Lyu Haotian. Playing at Cheltenham is just up the road from where Lisowski resides, and he's now only three wins away from the second ranking title in his career. The first one came in 2025 at the Northern Ireland Open.

- My game seems to be coming back together, and I need to use it. Players like me are a little bit inconsistent, so when it's going good, you need to squeeze out everything from it, Lisowski said.

Next up for him is a tough challenge in the form of Mark Selby. The China Open champion reached the quarter-finals of a ranking event for the 112th time in his career thanks to a victory over Ukraine's surprise package Iulian Boiko (4-2).
