Snooker: Ronnie O'Sullivan crashes out of Wuhan Open thanks to Chinese upset

Ronnie O'Sullivan cut a frustrated figure in his Wuhan Open semi-final match against China's Chang Bingyu. Ronnie's opponent was chasing just his second ranking final appearance ever, but it was "The Rocket" who was his own biggest adversary for the duration of the match.

The match was looking like a tough day in the office for O'Sullivan from the start, as Chang raced to a 2-0 lead. The Englishman managed to compose himself, clawing the deficit back to even at 2-2 before the break.

Following the break it was yet again the Chinese challenger who came out faster from the blocks, clocking up two frames before a trademark Ronnie O'Sullivan performance in just an 8-minute frame brought the scores to 4-3.

However, after that vintage frame frustration started to turn into anger for The Rocket. A lot of shots were taken quickly and aggressively for seemingly no particular reason, and an especially costly miss on a black meant Chang was now on match frame.

More brilliant but risky pots from O'Sullivan continued to light up the atmosphere, but finally there came one risk too many and Bingyu got a chance to close the game. The 24-year old grasped it with both hands to earn the first spot in the Wuhan Open final 2026.

The second semi-final will take place today on Friday at 12:30 between China's duo of Zhao Xintong and Xhao Guodong. This of course guarantees that the Chinese crowd will get to enjoy a home winner at the Wuhan Open this year!
