Sweden is sending a sizeable squad of 21 cross-country skiers to the World Cup opener in Ruka. The team includes several successful athletes from junior championship levels.
The
XC skiing World Cup will once again kick off at the end of November in snowy Ruka, as the opening races of the 2025/26 season are held in Kuusamo, Finlans on 28–30 November 2025. The three-day programme features a 10 km (c) interval starts on Friday, classic-technique sprints on Saturday, and 20 km (f) mass starts on Sunday.
Sweden published its impressive 21-skier team for the season opener on Monday. The composition of the group is quite fresh, with several young and successful skiers included.
Among the men, Sweden will be represented in Ruka by, for example, 19-year-old
Alvar Myhlback, who last spring became the youngest
Vasaloppet winner of all time and has won two junior world titles, 21-year-old
Anton Grahn, a triple junior world champion, 23-year-old
Edvin Anger, already part of the world elite for a few years, and 24-year-old
Emil Danielsson, a two-time junior world medallist.
The only thirty-year-old men in Sweden’s team are 33-year-old
Johan Häggström and 30-year-old
Oskar Svensson.
William Poromaa,
Jens Burman and
Calle Halfvarsson, who underperformed at Sweden’s season opener in Gällivare, will not race in Ruka.
On the women’s side, Sweden relies more on its established top tier for the season opener. The young representatives in Ruka are 21-year-old
Evelina Crüsell, a double junior world champion, and 23-year-old
Märta Rosenberg, a triple junior world gold medallist.
