Norway named its team on Wednesday for the Tour de Ski, which will be raced around the turn of the year.
Norway has selected its squad for the Tour de Ski, which begins after Christmas. The announcement includes many expected names, but also some surprising omissions.
Recently selected for the
Milano–Cortina Olympic Games,
Martin Løwstrøm Nyenget and
Einar Hedegart, will not compete in the Tour de Ski. The duo, who are likely already assured of their Olympic places, have probably opted out by choice and are focusing on the Olympic competitions.
Sprinter
Even Northug may have to say goodbye to his Olympic ambitions, as he did not make Norway’s Tour de Ski team and opportunities to prove himself are now very limited. The same can be said for
Iver Tildheim Andersen and
Jan Thomas Jenssen, who, like Northug, did not make the Tour de Ski squad.
Instead, experienced skiers
Emil Iversen and
Simen Hegstad Krüger, along with young rising star
Lars Heggen, will compete in the Tour de Ski and also fight for the final Olympic spots.
The team also includes, among others, the Olympic selections
Heidi Weng,
Kristine Stavås Skistad,
Johannes Høsflot Klæbo,
Harald Østberg Amundsen and
Erik Valnes.
