The Diamond League meet in Paris on the 28th of June 2026 is under serious threat to be cancelled due to the heatwave going over France.
The
Paris Diamond league meet on the 28th of June is looking like it's going to be cancelled due to the massive heatwave gripping Europe. Temperatures in France have soared up to 43 degrees celsius, and with many events coming up this weekend, the French Police are looking to step in.
The
Eiffel tower has already been closed earlier this week, with temperatures in Paris measuring at a scorching 40 degrees. Sunday's forecast doesn't seem quite as catastrophic, with the mercury expected to only go up to around 30.
The
French track and field federation want to still hold the event, but in an adapted format. They released a statement concerning the meet on Thursday:
- The safety of athletes, spectators, coaches, volunteers and officials remains our utmost priority. As a result, only elite athletes will be permitted to compete at the Meeting de Paris, in accordance with this exemption. This adaptation ensures that the event can proceed while maintaining the highest possible standards of safety, the statement read.
The prefecture of the police is threatening to enforce the order to not hold the meet, although no official order has been given as of yet according to the organizers.
