Three-time Olympic medallist Mutaz Essa Barshim competed on his home soil in Doha in 2023.
Traditionally, Doha´s Khalifa stadium is the place where Diamond League season starts but in 2026, the
Diamond League had to take steps due to the unstable situation in the Middle East. So this time around Doha in Qatar hosts the seventh Diamond League meeting on the 19th of June 2026.
The Diamond League circuit continues at the end of the month with the
Paris Diamond League.
Doha Diamond League 2026 – Disciplines
The athletes will compete in 14 Diamond League disciplines (7 men's, 7 women's) in Doha. The most interesting disciplines will most likely be the men's 3000m steeplechase, men's 110m hurdles and the women's 400m, which sees Olympic champion
Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic make her Diamond League debut for the season.
The 110m hurdles will draw particular interest thanks to the
new 110m hurdles world record by Ja'Kobe Tharp on Wednesday at the NCAA Championships. Reigning World & Diamond League Champion
Cordell Tinch (USA) will be looking to improve his PB of 12.87 (4th all time) closer to the new WR benchmark of 12.75.
Meanwhile in the 3000m Steeplechase Morocco's
Soufiane El Bakkali will aim to replicate fond memories he has from Doha, where he PB:d the 3000m without anything to hurdle in 2023. The reigning Olympic- and 2-time World Champion calls Doha his "second home", and receive almost a home crowd support yet again in the Qatari capital.

Doha Diamond League 2026 postponed due to controversy in the Middle East
Athletics fans across the world were expecting the 2026 Diamond League season to start in Qatar's Doha like usual, but unfortunately the world had other plans. Unstable conditions in the Middle East meant that the competition needed to be moved, slotting into the middle of the DL season on the 19th of June.
Missiles flying around the athletes' heads would not have been ideal conditions to compete, but neither is extreme heat. In addition to the change of date, there's also been a change of venue from the Qatar Sports Club to the Khalifa International Stadium.
The latter provides athletes with temperature regulation, which is essential in the Qatari heat in the summer. Most notably it has hosted the 2019 Athletics World Championships, so things should go smoothly as long as only athletes, not countries will be duking it out in the heat on the 19th of June.
New Doha Diamond League venue
After Doha's Diamond League meet got postponed in 2026, the Khalifa International stadium was forced to step in and host from the lesser-equipped Qatar Sports Club. Sporting a 45,857 capacity, the stadium was renovated in 2017 to include a roof that covers 70% of the stadium.
This provides some much-needed shade for the fans, while all around the stadium there are cooling units to be found that make even the Qatar summer feel bearable to athletes and fans alike. The temperature in the Khalifa is kept at a comfortable 26 celsius throughout all events, which there have been many.
The stadium was actually built as far back as 1976 for the 4th Arabian Gulf Cup, enjoying major renovations in 2005 and in 2017 in preparation for the 2019 Athletics World Championships and 2022 Football World Cup, where it's become most known to the public.

History: Best Moments & Results in Doha Diamond League
Although Doha hasn't been on the athletics map for long, there have been plenty of memorable moments. Despite it's short history, in Diamond League terms Doha is in fact the oldest venue, since it hosted the very first Diamond League meet ever in 2010.
The 2025 edition of the Doha Diamond League was a memorable one, particularly due to the men's javelin throw. Germany's
Julian Weber and India's
Neeraj Chopra traded blows across the competition, both going close to 90 metres until both of them smashed the barrier. Watch the video below to see which one ended out on top!
Other memorable Doha Diamond League moments include the 2015 men's triple jump, where unknown quantity
Pedro Pablo Pichardo of Cuba took reigning Olympic champion
Christian Taylor all the way and beyond, both leaping thrice to a distance over 18 meters. In the end, the 21-year old Pichardo took victory by just two centimeters with 18,06m, but Taylor wasn't too bothered thanks to a PB of 18,04.
Javelins seem to enjoy the flying conditions in Qatar, as Germany's
Thomas Röhler discovered in 2017 when he launched a monstrous launch all the way up to 93,90 meters. That still remains the Diamond League record, and it's going to take some throw to beat it.
