Hunt for double complete! - More glory for Brit in the 200m at European Championships

Team GB had already provided the Birmingham crowd with plenty of special memories already in the European Athletics Championships. Expectations where therefore sky-high for the women's 200m final on Thursday night, with Brits Amy Hunt and Dina Asher-Smith looking to be the clear favourites for gold.

Hunt had just a couple days earlier crowned herself as the fastest woman in Europe in the 100m final, whily Asher-Smith is a double European and world champion in the 200 meters.

Asher-Smith had the better start, rolling through the bend like her life depended on it with Hunt struggling to follow. However, once the race reached the straight, Hunt started reigning her experienced team-mate in. Another British 1-2 for the eager Second City crowd after the double victory in the men's 200m seemed a given.

Hunt's surge on the straight took her all the way past Dina, and she new she had the title, celebrating while finishing with a time of 22,19. Perhaps disheartened by seeing Hunt go past, Asher-Smith failed to defend her position when out of nowhere another athlete had entered the medal battle - Ireland's Rhasidat Adeleke.

Her long strides took her level with Asher-Smith to the finish line, and a final stretch 0,01 past her to take silver with an Irish record time of 22,28. Asher-Smith (22,29) had to settle for bronze.

Just being on the podium in a home games will likely have been special enough for her, as she was just a basket girl at the 2012 London Olympics. If she needs a 200m gold, there's three waiting for her on the mantelpiece already.
