Kristine Stavås Skistad left no room for surprises as the Norwegian cross-country ski season kicked off.
The sprint season opened in Beitostølen with a predictable result, as
Kristine Stavås Skistad comfortably claimed victory in the classic-technique sprint.
Ane Appelkvist Stenseth was the fastest in the qualification round, finishing more than 1.8 seconds ahead of Skistad, but in the heats Stenseth was pushed down to third place. Second place went to 24-year-old
Hedda Bakkemo, who delivered a strong performance ahead of the
World Cup sprint in Ruka.
Lotta Udnes Weng finished fourth, but she appeared extremely angry at the finish. In an interview with NRK, Weng said she had to dodge and shove coaches out of her way during the final.
- First I had to shout at them to move. Then give them an elbow. I would have liked to go over and tell them off. I consider myself quite a nice person, but things like this make me furious, and it cost me a podium today. I had to ski ten meters without poles while pushing people out of the way, she said.
Beitosprinten continues on Saturday and Sunday with interval-start races in classic and freestyle.
