Nenad Stekić jumped the European record of 845 in Montreal in July 1975. This result was the second best ever in the world after the Bob Beamon world record of 890. Stekić’s European record lasted until 1980, when East Germany’s Lutz Dombrowski jumped 854. 845 is still a Serbian record.

Nenad Stekić won the European Championship silver medals in the long jump in 1974 and 1978. On the indoor tracks he won the European Championship silver in 1980. At the Olympics, he finished sixth in Montreal in 1976.
