Snooker: Another China Open upset - Respotted black seals amazing comeback from 4-0

Almost every day has been full of surprises in the 1st round of the snooker China Open, and Tuesday was no disappointment. Today was perhaps the biggest shock of the tournament if you ask the Chinese crowd, as the unlucky culprit ended up being their first world champion Zhao Xintong.

The 2025 world champion was sent to take his seat in the crowd, but at least the fact that it was fellow countryman Zhang Anda who achieved the feat will ease the Chinese snooker faithful's tension. They also got full value for their money, as the match ended up being a real thriller between the 3rd and 19th world ranked duo.

Zhao started strongly, quickly establishing a dominant 4-0 lead. Zhang rallied hard, even going 5-4 ahead before Zhao got the next to force a decider.

In the decider it was Zhao with the chance to close, but his cannon attempt on the final black fell foul of the mark. Anda got the black in, forcing a respotted black at 64-64.

It was the challenger that prevailed, continuing the trend that has seen the likes of Judd Trump, Mark Williams and Ding Junhui fall.

In the other matches of the day Scot John Higgins was also sent home by Stuart Bingham in another slight surprise, while Chris Wakelin got the better of Tom Ford in an all-English affair.
