Diamond League Final: Two National Records in the men's 400m

The first evening of the Brussels Diamond League finals came to a close on Friday with the men's 400 meters. The race was to definitely one to be remembered, with four athletes going under 44 seconds, 4 PB's and two national records.

Two small nations were united in celebrations, with the loudest cheer coming from Botswana. Busang Collen Kebinathsipi has been the dominant force of the season in the men's 400m, but he's still been pipped to the world leading time by Nigerian youngster Samuel Ogazi.

Botswana's pride and joy raced ahead of the competition on Friday night in the Nigerian's absence, finishing as the Diamond League winner with his new personal best of 43.40. The time was his country's national record and also a Diamond League record, although he's still 0,08s shy of Ogazi's #1 mark for the season.

Second place went surprisingly to Trinidad & Tobago's Jereem Richards, who had only ran a 44.44 in 2026. Tonight that was no issue, as he went almost a second quicker to a new PB of 43.68, which is also Trinidad's new national record. Richards seems to come alive late in the season, as his previous PB of 43.72 was ran in September last year.

USA's Jacory Patterson was third with a PB of 43.78, while fellow countryman Chris Bailey had to settle for fourth. He won't be too bothered though, since the race saw him break the 44-second barrier for the first time in his career thanks to a time of 43.97.
