The U20 World Championships in Eugene lost perhaps their biggest star, as Gout Gout's season has been cut short due to a hamstring injury.
Australian runner
Gout Gout has been hailed as the next sprinting superstar. The talk surrounding the teenager skyrocketed in April, as the just 18-year old zoomed to a junior World Record time of 19,67 in the 200 meters.
The Aussie's Cinderella story has now been put on hold, as Gout has sadly suffered a hamstring injury in practice. The injury is significant enough to force the youngster to not make a return to the track this season.
We already knew that he was going to be missing the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in favour of concentrating on the
U20 Athletics World Championships in Eugene later in the summer, so it's a particularly bitter blow given how careful he was being.
- I got the results of my MRI scan today, and sadly it's not good news. I'm extremely disappointed in this situation, but I understand that it's a part of the sport. In the coming months I'll be concentrating on healing my leg, so I can come back in 2027 stronger and faster than ever before, Gout told fans
in an Instagram post.
Gout made his debut in the
Diamond League this season, as he participated in the 200m race in Oslo. Australia's star in the making failed to shine that time out, with just a 6th place finish to look back upon. A time of only 20,60 must have also not been on the menu for the Aussie before the race.
In the 100 meters, Gout isn't quite as hot of a prospect, but his record of 10,00 still gets him in the top 10 on the all time U20 list.
