Team USA celebrated on day 2 of the U20 athletics World Championships, as they dominated the 100m finals. Watch the full highlights here.
Tate Taylor was the hero of day 2 in Eugene's U20 World Championships of athletics, becoming the home crowd's darling instantly thanks to his performance in the men's 100m final. Taylor raced away from Jamaica's
Gary Card at the death, crossing the finish line with a time of 9,94.
Oregon's athletics shrine has been kind to Taylor, as he already won the 200m race here at the
Eugene Diamond League. Card's silver medal time was 10,05, while the bronze went to South Africa's
Marko Ferreira with a time of 10,16.
It was a great day in the sprints for the host nation, as team USA's Mia Maxwell also took gold in the women's 100m final. Her time of 11,14 was just good enough to beat out Jamaica's
Shanoya Mikalia Douglas (11,17) and Italy's 16-year old superstar
Kelly Ann Doualla (11,27), who took gold at the European U18 level a few weeks back.
An interesting curiosity about the women's final was the presence of
Mariah Maxwell, who as you can probably guess from her surname, is winner Mia's twin sister. The duo are just 18-years old.
In the women's discus final China's
Yixin Su won the gold with a throw of 61.06, while in the women's shot put the best was Nigeria's
Jessija Oji with a heave of 18.08. The women's long jump gold belonged to
Djelika Diarra of France, who jumped 6,52 to earn her world title.
