The World Athletics U20 Championships continued with Day 3. Among the highlights and best results were a near-miss on the world record in the 3000m and a over 80m heave in the javelin.
Kenya's
Emmanuel Kiprono put on a show in the U20 World Athletics Championships Day 3 in the men's 3000m race. Without a doubt the highlight of the day, Kiprono began the race as he meant to end it, taking the lead immediately and never looking back.
7 and a half laps later the clock stopped at an incredible time of 7.28:28, which is a new competition record - and only 9 hundredths of a second from the U20 World record.
The impressiveness of the feat is showcased by the gap to France's
Alois Abraham who took the silver, as he could only manage to finish almost 20 seconds behind the Kenyan. The bronze went to Japan's
Ojiro Honda.
Heymans clears 80 meters in the javelin
South Africa's

The home crowd celebrated double gold yesterday in the 100m finals, and more USA glory was on the cards in the men's 400m winal, where
Jayden DeLeon and
Quincy Wilson took the gold and the silver. No American had taken the 400m gold in the men's category since 2008.
In the end it was DeLeon who got the gold with 44,47, with Quincy trailing him by a couple of meters with 44,62. South Africa's bronze medal winner
Leendert Koekemoer also sneaked under the 45-second mark with a run of 44,96.
