Biathlon star, Olympic- and World Champion Hanna Öberg is expecting her first child with fellow Swedish national team member Martin Ponsiluoma.
One of Sweden's biggest biathlon stars,
Hanna Öberg is pregnant. Öberg shared the news on Instagram with her parter
Martin Ponsiluoma, who is also in Sweden's national biathlon team.
- We have something to tell you! The upcoming season will have some new challenges, the couple wrote in their post.
In the post Öberg and Ponsiluoma are posing in a series of pictures, where the soon-to-be parents are proudly showing off Öberg's pregnant belly.
The pair didn't share when the expected birth will be taking place, or what Öberg is planning to do in terms of her biathlon career at the highest level. However, it's to be expected that she won't be present when the
Biathlon World Cup gets started in Kontiolahti at the end of November.
On the other hand, the next
Biathlon World Championships in Estonia's Otepää between the 9th and 21st of February 2027 could be a possibility, although albeit an unlikely one.
However, in recent years many biathlon stars have made a successful return to competing on a swift schedule after giving birth.
For example,
Baiba Bendika of Latvia managed a 5th place finish at the 2024 World Championships in the sprint race just four months after giving birth. Meanwhile,
Marie Dorin Habert took a staggering four World Championship medals at Kontionlahti 2015 just six months after her child was born.
