The former Olympic & World Champion Sergey Ustiugov has decided to retire. The Russian cross-country skiing star had a long and illustrious career.

Sergey Ustiugov has decided to retire. The news was confirmed by Russia's Ski- and Snowboarding Federation vice president
Jelena Välbe.
- I have an official announcement from Ustiugov stating that he's calling time on his career, Välbe told Sport24.
The 34-year old Ustiugov was a part of the skiing elite of his time, which lasted for a considerable amount. He won Olympic gold in the relay at the Beijing games, while his other career crown is his double World Championship showing at Lahti 2017, where took victory in the skiathlon and the team sprint.
In addition to those accolades, Ustiugov also took WC silver medals from Lahti in the sprint, men's relay and 50km freestyle races. The Russian also conquered the
Tour de Ski in that season.
Russian skiers have recently been missing from FIS competitions since 2022 due to Russia's military activities in Ukraine. However, last season Russian athletes made a return to the cross-country skiing World Cup and Winter Olympics under a neutral flag.
