One of biathlon’s biggest stars, Dorothea Wierer, will skip the season-opening Loop One Festival in Munich to focus on a training camp, with Italy confirming its final roster.
The Italian team originally announced for the Loop One Festival included
Lisa Vittozzi,
Michela Carrara,
Lukas Hofer,
Tommaso Giacomel,
Didier Bionaz,
Daniele Cappellari, and
Dorothea Wierer.
However, Wierer has decided to withdraw from the season opener to concentrate on a training camp next week in Ruhpolding, Germany. Italy will not be naming a replacement for her at the event.
Wierer, one of the sport’s top stars, has confirmed that she will conclude her long career this season, culminating with the Milan-Cortina 2026
Winter Olympics in February. The competition is especially meaningful for her as it takes place near her home stadium in Antholz-Anterselva.
This year, the International Biathlon Union (IBU) will host the season-opening races at Munich’s Olympic Park. The Loop One Festival is set to serve as the season opener not only this year but also in autumn 2026 and 2027.
The main event will take place on Sunday, October 19, featuring 60-athlete qualification races for both women and men in roller biathlon, followed by 15-athlete Super Sprint finals.
