North Korean athletes are competing internationally for the first time in three years at the Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China.
North Korea's athletics team started their campaign in China impressively, as 24-year-old Jo Kumryong
clocked a new national record of 10.28 in the men's 100 meters heats.
Before Friday, Jo Kumryong had a personal best of 10.76, set in Indonesia in 2018.
The previous North Korean record in the event was 10.60, achieved by Yu-Jon Rim
in 1991. So, the national record improved by a significant 0.32 seconds.
North Korea's only athletics medal in global championships is Jong Song-Ok's
gold in the women's marathon at the 1999 World Championships in Seville.
