The Norwegian Biathlon Association has announced the season’s first selections for the Östersund World Cup and the Obertilliach IBU Cup.
Norway’s initial
biathlon World Cup teams are now confirmed. According to the Norwegian Biathlon Association, the selections are based on a new model introduced before the season, emphasising national-level “A and B merits”.
For that reason, the announced teams came as no surprise to the athletes – most spots were awarded based on the opening races held this weekend in Geilo, Norway. At the same time, several strong names miss out on the World Cup start.
– We knew the battle for the final spots would be tight. It’s fantastic to have so many strong athletes, but it also means that some very strong performers won’t make the World Cup team this time. This is only the first selection – there will be plenty of opportunities to prove oneself before the Olympics, says head coach Per Arne Botnan.
Among the women,
Juni Arnekleiv misses out on the
Östersund World Cup and will start in the IBU Cup. On the men’s side,
Johannes Dale-Skjevdal and
Sivert Guttorm Bakken are selected for the
IBU Cup in
Obertilliach, Austria.
