Olympic and World Champion Simen Hegstad Krüger will not compete in this weekend’s World Cup events in Ruka, the Norwegian Ski Federation announced.

– Simen Hegstad Krüger has unfortunately come down with a cold and will therefore not travel to the Ruka World Cup opener, said team doctor Ove Feragen in a statement.

Krüger has also faced health issues earlier this fall. In September, he had to miss part of the training camp in Torsby due to a respiratory infection, according to NRK.

The 32-year-old Norwegian began the season last weekend in Beitostølen, finishing sixth in the 10 km classic race and fourth in the 10 km freestyle.

Krüger’s spot in Ruka will be taken by Edvard Sandvik, who will compete in Friday’s classic race. Andreas Fjorden Ree will take over Krüger’s start position in Sunday’s freestyle event.
